The NICOLHy consortium is composed of world-leading experts in different fields from 5 organizations sited in 4 European countries: Germany, Greece, Italy, and Norway. The consortium partners gained a wide inter-disciplinary knowledge in previous research projects on liquid hydrogen and cryogenic technologies. Several aspects such as modelling and testing materials for their characterization (integrity evaluation such as strength, ductility, toughness, thermal expansion, and compatibility), safety (risk analysis for safe operation, hazardous scenario evaluation, consequences of fire), costs, sustainability and circularity for hydrogen technologies are covered by the consortium expertise.

NICOLHy partners are European organizations leading in different sectors relevant for the development of LH2 storage tanks with a focus on their thermal insulation. The consortium includes the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), the German Aerospace Center (DLR), and the leading universities Alma Mater Studiorum - Universita Di Bologna (UniBo), Norges Teknisk-Naturvitenskapelige Universitet (NTNU) and the National Technical University Of Athens (NTUA). Highly relevant LH2 and LNG supplier companies are members of the stakeholder advisory board (SAB).
